JP Otto is an Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer who specializes in CNC programming, high volume production, short run prototypes, process design, CAD modeling, and manufacturing drawings. After a decade of leading engineering teams in some of the top manufacturing facilities in the country, he has turned his attention to one of his long-standing passions: motorcycles.
JP recognizes that many new OEMs struggle with getting their ideas off the ground. His experience has placed him in the unique position to complete quality, custom-designed components that actually work in the final assembly. Ensuring a proven design process that is easily communicable to manufactures is the key to his success.
In addition to working for local motorcycle OEMs and custom motorcycle shops, JP has a passion for restoring older racing motorcycles. While restoring his TZ250, he noticed that many of the parts needed were no longer being manufactured, or that they no longer had aftermarket support. So, what’s an engineer to do? That’s right – make them! JP’s long-term project is to offer an affordable, 500cc, 4-cylinder, 2-stroke motor. This motor is being designed with accessibility in mind, and is made from a combination of custom and commercially available components. This motor will bolt into a production motorcycle frame, making the vintage GP racer dream that much more tangible for enthusiasts.
When JP isn’t busy working on his next design or at the race track, he enjoys traveling with his wife and two children, playing drums, and performing with his band. As a Portland, Oregon resident, he enjoys connecting with other motorcycle enthusiasts in his community, and sees Portland’s potential as a leader in motorcycle design, manufacturing, and events.
